RE: Hydro -hot fluid question.

Thanks. I think I understand: Of course I would need to winterize the water lines and supply when storing the coach in cold weather, but I would not need to do anything to the hydro-hot per se. Right?

Hydro -hot fluid question.

Is the liquid in the hydro hot system water, or some type fluid that is freeze resistant??

RE: Motorhome manueverability

I thank you all for the responses. Ivylog response is especially helpful. On the downside, I guess no one will tackle the geometrics??

Motorhome manueverability

I am considering moving from a 36' fifth wheel towed by crew cab dually to a tag axle 42' motorhome and wondering if Ill lose the freedom to camp in COEs, NFs etc. I've read earlier posts on the manueverability of mh vs 5er and found varying opinions, but the focus has been on the general question of which is easier and that doesnt help. I can park my 5er on a dime traveling alone. Assume ,after some pain, I would eventually develop comparable skill at parking the mh. I'm admittedly geometrics challenged, but this is what Ive done: Distance trailer rear wheel hub to pivot point: 308" Pivot point to front truck axle: 168" Motor home wheelbase: 279" Do these numbers help compare the actual physical manueverability (as opposed to driver skills?)????? If so, whats the conclusion?

RE: Illinois Governor shuttering State Parks

Illinois could solve its budget problems by raising its income tax .25%, but no politician in the state has the guts to suggest as much. They'd rather cut services, increase petty fees, nickel and dime to death, all the while having great debates over each petty revenue item.

RE: Illinois Governor shuttering State Parks

The collective IQ of those who govern Illinois is slightly above freezing. As a senior, I can stay in a state park for a mere 10/night for electric PLUS a camping fee. During the winter I have stayed in a state park with NO ONE ELSE IN THE PARK and been screwed out of extra $ for weekend. While this makes no sense, one must forgive the powers that be; stupid is as stupid does.

RE: 12 vdc trouble

Thanks "rob". I should have provided more detail: Problem occurs with different circuits and the wiring is adequate (fiver is now 5 years old and has been fine since new until recently). I have checked and retightened all battery connections. Could this be some internal problem in my converter even though I'm not hooked up to 120??? Would a bad ground connection cause the heating??

12 vdc trouble

My lead-in 12v positive connection at my fuseboard gets so hot I can't touch the terminal, is scorching the mounting board and threatens a fire. This occurs with any significant load. Does anyone out there have any suggestions as to what to look for? Could this be a bad coach ground??? My power source is two 6v golf carts. My solar control shows normal output from the batteries. The problem occurs when I am not hooked up to 120vac. havent been hooked to 120 so I don't know if I have the problem then as well. I have infrequent web connection so thanks now for any help you can give me!!

RE: CELL PHONE INTERNET ACCESS

OH OH. I have AC with Vpak and am having no luck. Sounds like I might be better off to be on Nationwide?

RE: Ford F350 Tire Replacement

I just replaced Goodyear Wrangler ATS which were excellent on my dually for 50K miles with Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor ( a little more expensive) The new tires are the worst riding tire I have had in a lifetime. Goodyear has turned the truck into something I hate to drive @ 200.00/tire. A Wrangler is not a Wrangler!!I have had Goodyear tires on a lot of vehicles that I purchased. When they wore out, I did not go back with Good Year. I think they are the biggest piece of junk as far as tires go. I had a set on NCT Good years on a Z28 when I was younger. $385 each! they lasted 30,000 miles and they would NOT hold balance. I had good year Wranglers on an Expedition, 35,000 and they were shot. Price quote to replace them was almost $600. I put a set of Coopers on it and called it good. Sold the truck with 47,000 on the tires and they still looked new. I also couldn't keep the Wranglers in balance. I have also had the wrangler HP on the wifes truck.... same thing, 35000 and worn out, not to mention they rode like a rock. I also put a set of Coopers on it. I'm lost. These Goodyear Silent Armors will not balance. 200/tire balanced borders on criminal. No balance possible--one was even out of Goodyear specs and will be replaced. The ride is HORRIBLE. I will never buy another Goodyear. Well, Jbird went off half-cocked. Talked to Goodyear Customer Service and they have offered to see that the tires balance or they will do whatever is necessary to make it drive right. Bad tires on my truck, but good company makes em as far as my dealings go.

RE: Goodyear Tires

.........I have goodyear wranglers on my 99 travel supreme . Can someone decipher this code for the manufacturing date??? ............DOT MDOP HTOV....there are no numbers after the letters !! , thanks , jf The date of mfg is often if not always stamped on only one side. Shops have a knack for making it the inside, either deliberately or Mr Murphy at work.

RE: CELL PHONE INTERNET ACCESS

1x via vcast does not work in southern illinois now. Verizon connects you to a web page which will sell you internet for 59.99/mo for whats essentially 1x unless you live in broadband range. With tax, 70.00/mo ,for what was part of one's 50/mo phonr plan 6 months ago. Progress!

RE: CELL PHONE INTERNET ACCESS

Another question born of ignorance as I try to avoid 59.99/mo for internet access as I travel now that Verizon has shut off my 1X ability. Can I just subscribe to an ISP such as Juno, use my LG8300 as modem to dial up, get slower speed browsing using my Verizon minutes? Mr Wizard?? Or any other experts? Seems like somebody suggests this on the Howard forum, but that forum is way over my head.

RE: GULF WATERS RV RESORT- Port Aransas, TX.

Hi, We ran into that issue for the first time last year. We've been spending winters there for years. It's a ridiculous rule, we could have been assigned a waterfront site for additional charge, even though we didn't want it. Fortunately, we got a site in the area we wanted near the boardwalk, but it could have been a serious problem. We noticed the park was very open, not like the past. Don't know why, but it could be an issue. I think management realizes it's a problem, maybe it'll be resolved before next December. I think you're right----management/owners are considering a change in the aggravating rotation system. If owners who got the earlier/or later, more expensive lots, get more rental occupancy-----join the world. Location, location, location.

RE: Travel Supreme Question

If I'm not mistaken, the following manufactured and successfully marketed premium fifth wheels, went into the motorhome business, lost it all: Western RV (Alpenlite), King of the Road (Genesis mh), Travel Supreme. Probably means something about capital investment.

RE: CELL PHONE INTERNET ACCESS

Verizon 1X backdoor now disabled in south Texas (Corpus Christi area). I guess I need VCAST. Do I need to do anything to my phone (LG8300) once I subscribe to VCAST in order to access 1X? (My phone settings are all as instructed by Mr Wizard and everything worked a few weeks ago).

RE: Dakotas, MT & WA: Best Indian experience?

The Museum of The Plains Indian(Correct Title???) in Cody Wyo is world class. Driving through any reservation in the moutain west gives a good feeling for the areas to which Native Americans were driven.
